The Oxford dictionary defines luck as good things that happen to you by chance, and it defines chance; as the force that causes good or bad things to happen to people. Interesting, don’t you think?
What is the force that causes good or bad things to happen?
Let me tell you a story from last week while doing an immersive mentoring program in the Camino de Santiago.
Every time we are out with a group walking, we try to identify the contact points that help the mentors make connections and naturally build rapport with the mentees.
Sometimes, the group is so diverse in their backgrounds, current moment in life, and cultural heritage that the only common dominator ends up being the will to find or revise your purpose in life.
We often hear people describing that will as a force. But it is also like a shared “language”, something that unites the group together and keeps us moving forward, especially during more challenging days.
The group in that program was a true blessing. Everyone was easygoing and engaged in every exercise and situation. By the end of the week, we could sense that each person was getting to where they wanted or could be, which is always an amazing feeling.
Were we lucky? Of course, we were.
When you decide to put one foot in front of another and tackle the focus question of your life and do your best to align your actions with your purpose, you luckily become luckier.
That simple? Yes! Do you have doubts?
One after another, two of the participants found several four-leaf clovers and at the end of the week, every group member received one, something I must confess I had never seen before. I actually never had one in my hands.
It seems to confirm that luck is like a muscle. It needs to be put to work every day of our lives, with autonomy, responsibility and intentionality. It requires that you give the very best of yourself before opening your mouth, act or deciding that it is time to stop. When you do that consistently, it seems that luck finds you and not necessarily the other way. It doesn’t matter if you are the one that is going to find the unique clover, if you keep doing the best you can, it might just be enough.
What about you? Are you doing your part of the work?
Have you been putting yourself in the proper position to find something special in your life? Maybe it is time for you to revise your purpose and action plan and see what happens next. Maybe a Walking Mentorship program can help you deal with it. But whatever you do, make sure you do your part of the work.
We are really happy to be back on the road with the immersive programs and long walks towards the best version of ourselves. Last week in Spain it went like this 🙂 Click on the image to watch the video and find out about our luck.
