Last night, while trying to fall asleep, I opened the photo gallery on my computer. Without noticing, looking at different pictures, my mind started travelling hundreds of miles into different locations, hearing distant sounds, and seeing different people. In minutes, I saw myself far away from my room.
A picture always has the power to trigger unique experiences, small parts of you and the ones that share a specific moment. Nevertheless, your perspective might change over time—an interesting phenomenon that unfolds silently like an artisan, a perfectionist and his masterpiece.
What we see today is not exactly what we saw years before. Some pictures have become more beautiful over the years. Every time I see them, I find new angles, details, and emotions; as if the elements in the picture continue to live in a parallel world, it usually gives me tears of joy.
Other pictures are still hard to stare at it, they hit pretty hard in the face, and it hurts. I look at them like challenges that remind me of my human nature, limitations, and hopefully, my capacity to overcome them.
It usually makes me feel questioned.
Finally, I looked at some pictures* that define the time we live, an invisible reality between ordinary and eternal, courage and cowardice, love and hate, happiness and sadness.
Easter is upon us, and one idea always lingers inside my heart around this time of the year. Freedom has a cost that no one can afford unless willing to trade for their own life, a thin red line that defines the true essence of our humanity.
I wish you a meaningful Easter, and if you can, go out for a walk in nature and take some good pictures of your (ideal) future.
P.S.* The picture portrayed on the article’s cover was taken by a fellow walker (Rotiv) during one of our immersive programs on the Camino de Santiago a few years back. It triggered one of the stories I like the most in my new book.
