When we are about to leave the cozy café going by the name of Via Stellae along the Camino de Santiago, there is a sign at the gate pointing to the most desirable destination, Happiness !
Nevertheless there is a catch, when you enter the place the signage is turned around. Meaning that If you pass by on a hurry most likely you’ll miss it.
Another interesting aspect about this place is the fact, that once a member of the group identifies the famous signpost, there is an immediate chain reaction, in less than a minute we have a terrific group picture.
It is like a magnet, people are drawn to good things in life. And if the destination is happiness, it almost seems that we are already there even before starting. An idea usually confirmed by our faces.
What I really love about this experience, is the fact that the sign actually is just pointing to the road. After few steps you immediately understand that you need to rely again on your own effort and orientation if you plan to get somewhere.
The more I pass by this peculiar board the more I understand the meaning of my life. The way to happiness is how I decide to live the “next few meters” of my journey. Which I find to be a provoking thought.
Developing yourself to become the person you want to be is the biggest challenge of life. No one can do that for you! And this is the reason why “carrying your own backpack” is so important to take ownership and responsibility of your thoughts and your actions.
Let me know what you think next time you come across a similar moment in life.
Takeaways from a signpost
- Even knowing that most of the people are looking for happiness, it seems that it is not a destination to reach but rather a reminder to be. Slow down!
- Be attentive, the sign(s) you might be looking for can be nearby but turned the other way around. Change perspective!
- When you see something good, stop and enjoy it with the people around you, you will never regret to do that. Take Action!
