My name is João and I am the founder of the Walking Mentorship and you can describe me as a”glass half full” type of person. Raised in Portugal during the revolutionary years, I quickly called the world my home. Finished high school in Montana, became a lawyer by accident and ended up selling my first digital company to an advertising group just before the bubble burst.
Becoming a Mad Man turned out to be much better than staying in court, the best travel agency I could ever have dreamed of; first took me on a European tour (France, Germany and UK) with a pit stop to conclude my MBA (Belgium) and later into Central Asia (Kazakstan) and Africa (Angola and Mozambique). In between more than 12 different countries, either living, working on specific projects, teaching at local universities, mentoring or proposing my future wife.
My purpose is to walk you towards a better life. I want to share the Walking Mentorship, a tool designed to help you achieve the best version of yourself.
There is a moment we all come face-to-face with our limitations, our restricted possibilities, and our mortality. Some will say it is a “midlife crisis”, but I rather call it an existential necessity of change. We all need to slow down and clear our head. Reset the counter, gain perspective and redefine our priorities.
One of the reasons we don’t have more moments like these is because it is hard to do it by ourselves and even harder if you think you will have to do it alone. That´s the reason why the Walking Mentorship was created. A much needed space where you can manage perfectly the imperfect balance of life, but doing so surrounded by some of the things we care about the most.
A mixture of quietness, fun moments, physical challenge, companionship, unusual lodging, fantastic meals, endless walks and beautiful landscapes in just few days. Progress in a structured way, with step by step exercises, and the presence of an experienced mentor, someone to help you focus and take control of the process.
Walk remarkable routes like The Camino of Santiago in Spain, the Via Francigena in the Alps or the Pacific Crest Trail in the United States. It might look like walking, but in the end it´s thinking and crystallising the best ideas you’ve ever had.
The Walking Mentorship will help you to clarify your hopes and dreams; Assess your needs, skills and situation; Set goals to achieve what you desire and create an action plan to make your dreams come true. Everyday we have a clear objective, intermediate milestones and exercises to support our plan.
In a supportive environment, everyone will have the opportunity to use individual walks, one to one mentoring, reflection, sketching, and other exercises to amplify their creative work. Conversations in pairs and within a small group will weave into a rich dialogue.
The objective of the Walking Mentorship is to spark a transformative movement. I dream to operate from an open-source and open collaboration approach that will make the experience more accessible and possible to be “hacked” by anyone. Ultimately allowing not only individuals but also organisations and corporations to benefit from the Walking Mentorship System.
Between now and then, if you would like to support the program, invite a friend to join or sponsor the tuition to someone who cannot afford, reach out without hesitation!
